Popular Videos on Video Rambler - November 2007

Here are the top videos that were posted in November, so make sure you check them out you don't want to miss something good.

My favourite from November is the Corner Gas clips. The ability to embed a YouTube playlist comes in handy when there are a bunch of videos that I want to show. The only problem is that you don't get that update when you visit the site. Take a look at the videos, there are some great clips in there from Corner Gas.

Also, make sure you check out the Return of the Ghostbusters and Dance Vader. They were posted late in November so they did not get enough views to make the list but I think both are great videos.

  1. Little Kitty, Big Meow
  2. The Two Talking Cats
  3. Chipmunk Fishing
  4. Guinea Pig Song
  5. Lego Star Wars Cantina
  6. Who's on First? Typography
  7. Corner Gas Clips
  8. WoW and Toyota
  9. Tractor Square Dancing
  10. Googol 333

Popular Videos on Video Rambler - October 2007

Here are the top videos that were posted in October, so make sure you check them out you don't want to miss something good.

I am glad to see that the Stuffed Gopher Hole Museum video got some views. I hope people enjoy it, but you really need to go and visit the Gopher Hole museum in person. The video does not do it justice. I start to laugh everytime I think about the place.

My favourite from October was Happy. It not only made me laugh but has kept my son and daughter laughing all month long. It might have made the top ten for October from my kids views alone. Great video if you need a laugh. Make sure you check it out, and keep your speakers on because you have to hear the punchline.

  1. Stuffed Gopher Hole Museum
  2. Kitties Joe-Joe Song
  3. Dove - Onslaught
  4. Gorilla Loves Chocolate
  5. "Weird Al" Yankovic - Bedrock Anthem
  6. Spider In The Bath
  7. Dove Evolution Parody - Pumpkin Evolution
  8. "Warning"
  9. Happy
  10. The Muppet Show - The Witchdoctor

Video Rambler Contest Update!

I never thought that giving away a $25.00 Gift Certificate would be so hard. I have drawn three different email addresses out of the hat so far and no one has replied. The emails are not bouncing back to me so either people don't read them, or they simply don't want the gift certificate. I'll keep trying and let you know if and when I find someone from the email subscription list that gets back to me.

Video Rambler Contest!

I have decided to take part in Reader Appreciation Week 2007 which runs from April 9th through the 13th to say thank you to everyone that visits Video Rambler.

What You Get: Besides getting to watch all the fun videos I have posted and talked about here at Video Rambler, you get a $25.00 Gift Certificate from Amazon.com to spend anyway you like.

How to Enter: To enter the contest is pretty simple, subscribe to the Video Rambler RSS email feed. Only subscriptions that are confirmed will be entered so make sure your email address is correct. All active subscribers to the RSS email feed will be entered into the draw that will take place on Saturday April 14th. I will randomly pick one person's email address out of the active email subscriptions and will contact that person by email. If the email bounces or is not replied to within 24 hours I will draw another email address out of the hat. Please only enter once!

The only way to enter is to subscribe to the RSS email feed. If you already subscribe to the RSS feed in a reader you will have to subscribe to the RSS email feed as well to be entered. This was the only way I could think of that will not expose people's email addresses to spam bots, but still give me a way of contacting you.

Once a winner is contacted I will post an announcement with a link to their website if they have one.

Questions: If you have questions leave a comment and I will answer as soon as I can. Just my way of saying "Thank You" for visiting!

Good Luck!

Happy Birthday Video Rambler!

Well today is February 1st and it was one year ago that I started Video Rambler, although it did not get that name until March. The first video I post was "500kV Switch Opening" which is still a really cool video to watch if you have not seen it yet. Video Rambler has become a great hobby for me to do, and in many ways has replaced my television watching habit in the evenings, except for Corner Gas. Video Rambler has already out lived some other similar video blogs out there, most notably Google Video of the Day (GoogleTube) which in many ways was the inspiration for this video blog. I still try to post videos that I find interesting, funny and unique while staying away from those videos of people hurting themselves, being publicly embarrassed or generally doing stupid things.

I hope you have enjoyed the last year of Video Rambler and I look forward to many more interesting, funny and unique videos in the next year. Happy Birthday Video Rambler!

Todays video is actually a rerun of Happy Birthday. I did some searching for a new Happy Birthday video for today but I could not find one I liked better than this one. These guys are just so darn cute.

2006 Top 25 Videos

It is the time of the year for the best of lists of 2006, so I thought I would list the top 25 videos for 2006. This list comes from my log files and shows the most popular pages on the Video Rambler site. There are some great videos listed here. I am happy to see that some of my personal favourites are enjoyed by others as well.
1. Amateur Lasse Gjertsen
This video really shows what amazing things can be done by editing. This video was posted in December, pretty amazing that it can hit the number one spot for 2006.
2. Simpsons Couch Intros Season 16/17
Why bother watching the whole show of the Simpsons when the intros are the really funny part of the show anyways.
3. Windows Vista Speech Recognition Not!
I don't know if any of you will be switching to Windows Vista when it is actually on sale, but after watching this video and seeing the price tag I think I will start switching my desktops to Ubuntu Linux. I suppose I should thank Microsoft for finally pushing me away from Windows little by little. Goodbye Windows and Microsoft.
4. Pachelbel Rant
After watching this video I started to hear Pachelbel's Canon in D all over the place as well. Certainly not as often as he does but I am not a trained musician and I have never had to play the cello part for it.
5. Star Trek TOS Knights of the Round Table
This video is great! What is not to like about a mashup of the original Star Trek and Monty Python.
6. Purple and Brown
When I really need a laugh this video does the trick.
7. Backkom RG Animation Studios Feature
My favourite oh oh bear! I am very happy to see these videos make the top 2006 list. Backkom just seems to get into the funniest situations. If you don't want to miss any new posts of Backkom check out the Backkom labels page where all the Backkom videos are listed.
8. Vincent Ferrari Interview
Has AOL learned anything from this incident? I doubt it. Has any business learned anything from this?
9. Annoying Thing Crazy Frog
The Crazy Frog just will not die! He consistently is on the monthly top ten lists, so no surprise he makes the years top 25 list.
10. Ok Go Treadmill Dance
I liked this video and song, along with "A Million Ways" enough to go and buy the CD. It is a good disk and if you like this song go and pick up the CD. The whole CD is really quite good and worth the $15 or so dollars it costs. You have to give them credit for coming up with a great way to promote themselves and their music.
11. Crazy Frog We Are the Champions
See #9. What else has to be said. He is funny for a while but he is like the Energizer Bunny, he just keeps going and going.
12. Holly Dolly Dolly Song
I really should see if I can find out more about this video. I really enjoy it but know very little about who made it, and if there are others like it.
13. Gummy Bear Song
What a fun song and video. I watch this one with my son quite often. He loves it.
14. Hippo and Dog
Pat and Stanley videos are great. Glad to see others like them too.
15. Steve Irwin's Death News Report
It is unfortunate that we lost Steve Irwin this last year. I hope that the work he started will continue.
16. Crazy Frog Jingle Bells
Crazy Frog the Christmas version. I imagine this could be popular every Christmas for a few years yet.
17. Pittance of Time by Terry Kelly
Thanks to all our veterans and all the troops out there now. I hope you can come home soon and spend time with loved ones. Know that your work is appreciated.
18. Animated Christmas Lights Pixar THX
This one surprises me that it made the top 25. Don't get me wrong. It is a good video and worth seeing, I am just surprised it made it into the top 25 so quickly.
19. Abbot and Costello Who's on First
I am glad to see this video come in on the top 25 list of 2006. It is such a great routine and they do it better than anyone.
20. Kozo
My son's favourite purple hippo. While I was working on this list he made me play them over and over again.
21. Llama Song
The Llama song makes me smile. What else does it need to do. It must make others smile too to make the top 25.
22. Funni
Teh first Pat and Stanley video I posted. I did not know who they were are first I had to do some research. A very funny video.
23. 12 Pains of Christmas
Well Christmas is done for another year so we can all relax and take it easy for another 11 months until it all starts again.
24. Girls Just Want to Have Fun
This is a total surprise to me. One night of remembering my teenage years watching Friday Night Videos and it makes the top 25 for 2006.
25. Tra Tra Tra
My son was so happy. I have not played this for him for quite awhile and today I think he watched it enough to put it onto the top 25 for 2007.

Well Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you have all had a good 2006 and that 2007 will be even better. I look forward to all the great videos yet to come this year.

P.S. This is the 800 post to this blog, in case you really wanted to know.

New Features

If you have not noticed there have been a few changes on Video Rambler lately. Most have occurred because I upgraded from Blogger Classic to the new Blogger Beta. That means that Video Rambler now has what Blogger calls "labels". That is one of the features I was looking forward to having in the new Blogger Beta. It means that new posts all get labels and there are label (category) pages. Great for you to be able to find all the posts that are related to Star Wars, or The Simpsons etc. I will eventually get around to going through most of the older posts and adding labels to them. It might take some time, there are at last check 777 of them.

With the addition of labels I have also been able to put together a tag cloud. Something that Blogger Beta does not offer to FTP blog publishers, but something that I have put together along with a little AJAX. This gives you quick access to all of the label pages.

I have also reworked the archive pages menu using some AJAX as well. This has had the benefit of greatly decreasing the size of the pages on the site, which should help everything load a little faster. The archive list was getting rather long and not everyone uses it, so it is only requested now when you ask for it.

The transition to Blogger Beta has not been all rosy though. What was the Previous Posts list has been renamed to Recent Posts. This is because Blogger Beta does not create a previous posts list the same as Blogger Classic. It means it is harder to browse through older posts. It would have been nice if Blogger Beta had worked that out before offering to convert FTP publishers, but that is the way it goes for now.

The Video Rambler Favourite Videos Page

I like all of the videos that I post to Videorambler.com. As I have mentioned before if I don't like it I won't post it. There are, however, some videos that I like more than others. Below is my list, in no particular order, of my favourite videos that are posted to Video Rambler.

A Pittance of Time by Terry Kelly

I think this video is very moving and needs to be on the list. A excellent tribute to our veterans.

OK Go - Treadmill Dance

I liked this video and the song enough to go and buy the album. That says a lot these days. Very creative and entertaining.

Chad Vader Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3

This series of Chad Vader videos makes me laugh> I am looking forward to part 4.

Star Trek TOS - Knights of the Round Table

This mashup is just to funny. It does not get much better than Star Trek and Monty Python together. Awesome!

Kitty Dance
I can't get it out of my head.....ahhh "Cat, I'm a kitty cat".

Regina to Saskatoon

The fact that this is a video in the province I know and love gets this video on the list.

Star Wars Lego Symphony

Star Wars and Lego what a great combination in a video, especially when it is well done like this video.

Gopher Broke

It reminds me of Looney Tunes and it makes me laugh, what more do you need.

Comic Genius Live

I like to highlight great Canadian talent, and it is just so darn funny. The whole world needs to see it.

Backkom - rg Animation Studios Feature

These animations just make me laugh.

Funny Cats

Again, it makes me laugh and I can see my own cats doing many of the things these cats do.

Cat on Ice

It shows one of those moments that we all wish we had a camera for, and it is just so darn funny.

Man Describes His Sucky Mac

It is a classic and I have had such bad luck with Macs, I can relate so well to his rant.

I thought I would include my 2 year old son's favourite videos.

Tra Tra Tra

He can't get enough of this hippo video. I am going to go insane soon from having to play it for him.

Airplane Jump

My son loves monster trucks, I don't know why but he does and this makes his favourite list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions that I get asked.

Why Did You Create Another Video Blog?

My answer to that is why not? There are certainly enough videos on Google Video, YouTube, Veoh and others to create many many blogs about the videos that you can find on those sites. Every person has their own perspective on the world and what they like and don't like and that is partly what I think blogging is about. There are other video sites I look at occasionally, and I am sure I have some of the same videos as some of those other sites posted on mine, but that is the way it goes. If I posted a certain video I posted it because I like it.

Can I Add Videos to Your Site?

You can suggest videos for me to add to the site, but all the videos need to be hosted on Google Video, YouTube, or VEOH. I don't host the videos, I simply use the embed feature from those sites to feature the videos I like. If you would like to suggest a video to be posted please take at look at the Video Suggestion page and send an email to the address listed there.

What are Your Favourite Videos

I have a favourite video page that I list my current favourites on.

Why Do You Spell Words Like Favourite with a U?

I am a Canadian and that is the way I was taught to properly spell it. The same goes with colour.

What I Post

To be honest, I post what I like! If I don't like it I won't post it. Unlike some video blogs or sites, I try to post videos that are more family friendly, although not all will be and I make no guarantees that I won't post videos with foul language or violence occasionally, but I will try and make a note of it in the post so you know if the video contains those things. Videos that I usually will not post include videos that have sex, make fun of people, have people or animals getting hurt, and anything else that I feel does not give life. Like I said I post what I like, and I like videos that give people life, not make fun or embarrass people.

Suggestions

I am open to suggestions of videos. If you have a favourite video or it is one of your own projects I will be happy to have a look to possibly include it in videorambler.com. If you want to suggest a video please send an email to suggest@videorambler.com and include the url of the video on Google Video, YouTube, or Veoh. Also please include your first name (or a nickname) so I can say thanks in the post, and if you would like a link to your website, include your url.

About Video Rambler

If you have come to this page you are probably wondering what this website is all about and how it got started. I am making this post with a past date, so it is not really being written on the day it says it is, but I don't want it to show up on the front page of the blog. Anyways, I started this blog on February 1, 2006. I initially started it for fun and was not sure what I was going to post on it. As you can see in my initial post. As I recall the original name for the blog was "My Ramblings". I started out using the free space that I have with my ISP account, and thought I might post something to the site once a week or so. Nothing serious, just fun stuff I found on the internet.

On February 3, 2006 I posted about Google Video, and how I had been exploring many of the videos that they have available and how I was enjoying browsing through the many popular videos that they have and I thought at that time that I might post occasionally some videos from there. One February 4, I posted my first Google Video, 500kV Switch Opening, to the site and to be honest I did not think I would post another video for awhile. Was I wrong about that, and ever since that February 4 post I have been posting videos from Google Video, YouTube, Veoh and occasionally iFilm.

Around the first week in March it became apparent that my free hosting probably was not going to be adequate to continue hosting the website, so I decided that I would move the site to my dedicated server and come up with a domain name for it. I wanted to keep the word rambler, since that is pretty much all I do is ramble on, and since I was rambling on about videos, videorambler.com was born near the end of March, 2006.

Who Am I

My name is Lee and I am The Video Rambler. I run my own computer and internet development company called LGR Computer Enterprises. If you would like to know more about me and what I do please visit my company website and look around.

This site has become a fun thing to do and I hope to keep it going as long as I can. Hope you enjoy the videos as much as I do.

Welcome to....

I am not sure exactly what this will become yet. I have this space on Sasktel and thought I would make some good use of it. I wonder if people know that they can use their Sasktel personal webspace to host a blog by Blogger. It is kinda nice that Sasktel offers ftp access to the personal webspace, even though you don't get to run PHP scripts or CGI on the personal webspace you can use Blogger to publish your blog to the personal webspace with FTP. Anyways, we shall see what I end up posting here. I have no big plans for it but you never know, perhaps I will have an epiphany post it here.
